Anthony A. Herrman, 85, World War II Veteran

Anthony A. Herrmann, 85, of Lorain, died on Thursday, September 13, 2001 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain.

He was born on January 12, 1916 in Lorain and resided in Lorain County his entire life. He attended Lorain Schools and also attended a seminary in Chicago in 1935.

He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during World War II.

He learned the meat cutting trade working at his Uncle Dominic Rebman's Market. From 1949 until his retirement in 1965, he and his late wife, Mary, owned and operated Tony's Food Fair at Pearl Avenue and East 29th Street in South Lorain. Following his retirement, he worked at Meyer Goldberg Supermarket and then Lauerhhaus Custom Butchering in Belden, Ohio as a meat cutter.

Mr. Herrmann was also a taxidermist for many years with many of creations throughout our area on display, including Oberlin College and a lobster he mounted for McGarvey's Restaurant in Vermilion. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, and a former member of St. Michaels' Byzantine Catholic Church. He was a past president of the Amherst Outdoor Life Association and also had served on it's board/ He had been a member of the Holy Name Society and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his daughter: Barbara Maxwell of Lorain; his son: Kenneth Herrmann of Mendota Heights, Minnesota; and 2 granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years: Mary Louise (nee Pastelyak) in 1982; his father: Victor Herrmann; mother: Tereza Rebman; and step-father: Antel Rebman; 2 brothers: Geza Rebman and John Rebman; 2 sisters: Mary Murillo and Elizabeth Gulling; step-brother: Victor Herrmann; and step-sister: Eleanor Herrmann.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 18, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, Lorain. Fr. Daniel O. Divis, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
