Matthew "Matt" Barrett Baker, 72, Divisional Manager
Matthew "Matt" Barrett Baker, 72 of Avon Lake died Wednesday, September 19 at his home following a six-month illness.He was born November 26, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; was raised in Hammonton, NJ and moved to Avon Lake in 1960, coming from the Westlake, Columbus and Detroit areas. He was a graduate of St. Joseph College, Philadelphia PA and served as a First Lieutenant in the Air Force during the Korean War. Matt was employed as divisional manager in retail sales for Spiegel and then the May Company. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake and was an avid reader.
Mr. Baker is survived by seven sons, Michael Baker, Joseph Baker, Patrick Baker (Lyn), Kevin Baker, Christopher Baker (Polly), Timothy Baker (Rebecca), and James Baker, a daughter, Marie Gagliardi (Frank), ten grandchildren; a brother, Anthony ( Suzanne) and a twin sister, Mary Baker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorrainne Theresa Baker (nee Pimley); his parents, Joseph A. and Marie E. Baker (nee Barrett); a brother Joseph Baker and a sister, Betty Baker.
Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, September 21, 2001. Prayer services will be held a the funeral home Saturday, September 22, at 8:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, 32929 Lake Road, Avon Lake at 9:00 a.m. Fr. Timothy J. O'Connor will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
