Charles E. Smith, Jr., 54, Avid Fisherman and Hunter

Charles E. Smith, Jr., 54, of Vermilion, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2001 at Community Health Partners following a brief illness. He was born October 28, 1946 in Columbus, Ohio and has lived in Vermilion since 1968.

He was employed as a material handler by Lithonia Down Lighting in Vermilion for more than 20 years. Prior to that, he worked as a Manager for Mary's Cabaret in Vermilion.

He was a member of the Vermilion Fish & Game Club and past President of the Vermilion local I.B.E.W. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years: Marsha L. (nee Romes); father: Charles E. Smith, Sr. of Wellington, OH; mother: Mary R. Smith of Amherst, OH; sisters: Joan Rogers of Oberlin, OH, Gayle Hatten of Wellington, OH, Pam Scheiferstein of Hudson, OH; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, September 27, 2001 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway, Lorain, OH. The funeral will be Friday, September 28, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Martin of the Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Amherst, officiating.
