Mary Andorka, 94, Cook
Mary Andorka, age 94 of Lorain, died Wednesday, October 03, 2001 at the home of her daughter where she resided.Born October 20, 1906 in Newark, New Jersey, she moved to Hungary where she lived until the age of 16. She came back to the United States in September of 1922.
She was a cook working at Andorka's Bowling Alley for many years, and then at Admiral King High School Cafeteria, retiring from there at age 70.
She was an active member of St. Ladislaus Church, St. Ann's Auxiliary No. 287 of the Knights of St. John, the Virgin Mary Society and Kalocsai Folk Group. She was always participating in the cooking for church functions.
She enjoyed cooking, cleaning and crocheting. "She really loved her Hungarian music and dancing. Gypsy violins spoke to her heart and to her feet! More than she loved the music was her love of her family. She was a tremendous source of unconditional love. In fact, she was "Grandma" to everyone she met in the most giving sense of the word. She loved and was loved and will be profoundly missed," reflected her granddaughter, Dr. Sharon A. Lesner, Ph.D.
Surviving is her daughter, Sylvia Lesner, with whom she made her home in Lorain, a son James Andorka of Lorain, 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and innumerable honorary grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James in 1960, her parents, Anton and Anna (nee Vincze) Szep, brothers, John and Tony and sister Anna.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 5, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain where the Virgin Mary Society and St. Ann's Auxiliary will conduct a combined Rosary Services at 3:00 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday morning, October 6, 2001 at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by Mass at 11:45 a.m. in St. Ladislaus Church. Rev. Father Patrick Shields, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
