Alice Rutar, 78, Active in Church

Alice Rutar (nee DeBevac), 78, of Sheffield Township, died Monday, October 8, 2001 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph (Lorain) following an extended illness. She was born May 20, 1923 in Lorain and had been a life-long area resident. She graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1942.

Mrs. Rutar was employed as a time keeper for the American Stove Works (Lorain) for many years and was later employed as a sales associate in the sporting goods department of the May Company Department Stores. She retired in 1979.

An active parishioner of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Slovenian Catholic Church, she was a member of numerous Slovenian fraternal lodges including K.S.K.J.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years: Michael J. Rutar; sons: Michael of Sheffield Township and Dale of Amherst; and a step-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Johanna (nee Tomsic) DeBevec; brothers: Edward and Harry; and her sister: Jean Kochis.

Friends may call at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain - where a parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church - 1705 East 31st - Lorain. The Rev. Paul Krajnik, pastor of the Church and the Rev. Joseph Yelenc, T.O.R., professor at the University of Steubenville, will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
