Julia Venzel, 88, Enjoyed Playing Cards and Bingo

Julia Venzel (nee Szucs), 88 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away, Thursday, October 11, 2001 at New Life Hospice Residence Center in Lorain following a one week illness.

Born May 21, 1913 in Lorain where she was raised. She had been a resident of Amherst since 1962.

Julia worked as a cook for Amherst Manor Nursing Home from 1965-1972. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, belonging to the Catholic Golden Agers, AARP of Amherst, St. Ann's Ladies Auxillary #287 and the Virgin Mary Society. She was a former member of St. Ladislaus Church, Lorain. Julia enjoyed playing cards, bingo, crocheting and traveling.

Survivors include her daughter Maggie Gergely of Amherst, 3 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and her sister Yolanda Goforth of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years John L. Venzel in 1972; her parents Joseph and Julia (nee Bailint) Szucs; her brothers Joseph and John Szucs.

Friends may call Sunday, October 14, 2001 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 15, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
