Sister Patricia (Josephine Marie) Jursinski, SSJ TOSF, 86, Parochial School Teacher/Principal

Sister Patricia (Josephine Marie) Jursinski, SSJ TOSF, age 86, long-time Lorain parochial school teacher and principal died on Thursday, October 11,2001 at Clare Hall of Marymount Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Third Order of St. Francis in Garfield Heights, Ohio.

She was born on February 22, 1915 in Lorain, OH on entered the convent from nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Lorain on July 21, 1931. She professed her final vows at Marymout Motherhouse on August 1, 1937. She had earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1944 and Master of Arts Degree in 1949 from St. John's College, Cleveland. She did post-graduate work at Case Western Reserve University, Marquette University, University of Dayton; Florida State University and Akron University. She received a permanent certificate in administration from the States of Ohio and Michigan.

A teach and organist, she served at the churches and schools of SS Peter and Paul, Garfield Heights, OH from 1933-1938, All Saints, in Flint Michigan, from 1938-1940, St. Josaphat, Cleveland from 1940-1941, St. Hedwig, Lakewood, from 1941-1944, and also 1945-1949. St. John the Baptist, Dearborn, MI from 1944-1945; and St. John Cantius, Cleveland from 1949-1950. She was a master teacher at Immaculate Heart of Mary, Cleveland from 1950-1964. She was the principal at St. Stanislaus-Holy Trinity, Lorain from 1964-1979; and St. Mary, Lorain from 1979 to 1991.

She also was a demonstration trainer at St. John College from 1950-1964 as well as a master teacher.

Sister Pat enjoyed music, reading, television, playing the organ and visiting the elderly in the nursing homes. She was also a choir director, elementary school orchestra director and eucharistic minister.

For 14 years, Sister was involved in a training program serving as a Master Teacher in the Elementary Schools under the auspices of St. John College. While a Master Teacher, Sister Pat served on the Cleveland Diocesan Curriculum Committee, acted as chairman of the National Catholic Music Association Unit of Cleveland, Ohio and was elected to the National American Civil War Committee.

In recognition for Master Thesis titled "The Polish Participation in the American Civil War," she was presented with a citation at the Archives Museum, Washington D.C. She also received from the national Science Foundation a grant to further her studies in Mathematics at Florida State, Tallahassee, Florida. Her work with the children was twice cited by the Freedoms Foundation of America at Valley Forge.

For a number of years she acted as a consultant on the Orientation Programs for beginning teachers and she gave numerous demonstrations with the students in various subjects at St. John College. She also conducted a TV program "Inside Catholic Schools" on Channel 5.

Sister Pat is survived by her sister-in-law: Natalie (nee Carson) Jursinski of Boca Raton, Florida, 2 nephews, 4 great-nieces and 2 great nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Michael and Stephanie (nee Partyka) Jursinski, brother: Stephen in infancy and Frank (Jay) Jursinski in 1990.

The family will receive friend on Saturday, October 13, 2001 from 2-4 p.m. in Marymount Chapel, 12215 Granger Road, Garfield Heights, where a wake service will be held at 4:00p.m. and on Sunday, October 14, 2001 from 2-4 and 6-8 in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Friends may also call on Monday, October 15, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 418 15th Street, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Robet Glepko, pastor, and Rev. Fr. John Kline, pastor Emeritus of St. Mary Church, Lorain will concelebrate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
