Jose Adorno, 84, Lorain Community Hospital Maintenance Man

Jose Adorno, age 84 of Jamaica, New York, formerly of Lorain, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at Parkway Hospital, Forrest Hills, New York, following a lengthy illness.

He was born on March 17, 1917 in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, moving to this area in 1974 from Manhattan, New York. In 1998, he then moved to Jamaica, New York.

He had worked at Lorain Community Hospital in the Maintenance Department for 7 years. Prior to this he had worked in the Maintenance Department for the Housing Authority in New York City.

Jose was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel. He also was a member of the Cursillo Movement and Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Guadalupe in New York City.

He enjoyed helping people and dancing.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carmen R. (nee Melendez) Adorno, son, William of Gurabo, PR, daughters, Susan Vega, of Queens Village, NY and Gloria Santiago, of Orlando, FL, 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; brother, Nini Adorno of Gurabo, PR, Marcial of Rio Piedras, PR and sister Paula Carrasquillo, of Gurabo, PR.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Emlio and Julia (nee Hernandez) Adorno and son: Tony Adorno in 1996.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 21, 2001 from 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 22, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
