Hans Theiss, 72, Owned Contracting Firm

Hans Theiss, age 72, of Amherst died Saturday, October 20, 2001 in the emergency room of Community Health Partners and Surgical Center (West) after being stricken with an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Theiss was born February 7, 1929 in Marienbur, Transylvania, and had been a resident of Lorain County since 1952 coming from Germany.

He was the owner of Hans Theiss General Contractor who built numerous residential and commercial building projects throughout Lorain County from 1958 until the time of his retirement in 1995.

An U. S. Army Veteran, Mr. Theiss served as a Specialist-3 in the artillery division. He was a life member of Mullen-Murray Post #451 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars - Lorain.

He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lorain where he served as Managing Trustee for many years. He also built the church parsonage as well as its altar and interior.

He was a member and trustee of the former Lorain Saxon Club, and was the longtime sponsor of bowling teams participating in league competition at the Saxon Lanes. He had a great love for nature and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years: Olga (nee Pankratz), sons: James of Silver Spring, Maryland, Donald of Douglasville, Georgia and Glen of Raleigh North Carolina, daughters: Debbie Carr of Elyria and Heidi Theiss of Lorain, six grandchildren, brother: Adolf residing in Germany and sisters Katharine Nietsch and Sara Kinn also of Germany and four (4) nieces residing in Germany.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Hans and Katharine (nee Markel) Theiss.

Friends may call Tuesday, October 23, 2001 from 2-4 an d6-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at 12:00 Noon in Zion Lutheran Church, 5100 Ashland Ave., Lorain. The Reverend Kevin Saylor, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, where military honors will be conducted by members and officers of V.F.W. Post #451 of Lorain.

The family suggests memorials in his name to Zion Lutheran Church Building Expansion Fund, 5100 Ashland Avenue, Lorain, OH 44053.
