Shirley M. Asbury, 66, School Housekeeper

Shirley M. Asbury (nee Van Dyke), 66 of Lorain, died Thursday, November 01, 2001 in New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph, Lorain. Following a lengthy illness.

She was born October 5, 1935 in Cleveland. As a child she moved to North Eaton Township. She was a Lorain resident for 42 years. She moved here in 1959 from West Virginia where she lived 5 years.

Mrs. Asbury was housekeeper for Lorain City Schools for 15 years untill 1995. She cleaned Lorain, Southview, and Admiral King High Schools and Whittier and Washington Junior High Schools. She enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls and making ceramics.

Among the survivors are her sons Frank, Jr. and Robert both of Lorain, daughters Peggy Page and Linda Igo both of Lorain; brothers Edward Van Dyke of Lorain, Walter Van Dyke of Las Vegas, NV and Sidney Van Dyke of Jacksonville, FL; a sister Delores Wallace of Cleveland; 10 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Frank C. Asbury, Sr. in 1995, her parents Fred and Josephine (nee Hill) Van Dyke and a sister Betty Kotalik this year.

Friends may call Friday 3:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, Lorain, Ohio.

Funeral services will be Saturday 11:00 AM in the funeral home. The Rev. Chris Robinson, Chaplin of New Life Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon.
