Jose D. "Pepe" Burgos, 78, Laborer
Jose D. "Pepe" Burgos, age 78, of Lorain died on Friday, November 2, 2001 in the Emergency Room at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center following a lengthy illness.He was born on August 6, 1923 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, coming to Lorain in 1946.
He was employed as a laborer in the Coke Plant at Lorain Works US Steel, for 13 years, retiring in 1986. Prior to this h e worked at Fruehauf in Avon as a laborer for 23 years.
He is a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, where he was a Cursillista and a member of the Holy Name Society. Jose was also a member of United Steelworkers Union Local #1104.
Jose was a beekeeper, wine maker, excellent domino player, card player and grew Lorain's biggest tomatoes. He also enjoyed volunteering his time at Sacred Heart Chapel.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Maria (nee Rodriguez), 1 daughter: Lucy Burgos of Lorain, 1 grandson, Justin of Lorain, 3 brothers: Carlos, Angel, Luis and Teodoro all of Puerto Rico, 5 sisters: Ana Ortiz, Inez Ortiz, Aida Ortiz, Maria Lucina Ortiz and Petra Burgos, all of Puerto Rico.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Pedro and Custodia (nee Jiminez) Burgos.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 4, 2001 from 2-5 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 5, 2001 at 8:45 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 9:30 a.m. mass at Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
