Joseph J. Filak, Sr., 93, Crane Operator

Joseph J. Filak, Sr., age 93, of Lorain, died on Friday, November 16, 2001 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home, Lorain following a lengthy illness.

He was born on March 19, 1908 in Budapest, Hungary, moving to this area in 1911.

He was employed for 47 � years as a crane operator at US Steel, retiring in 1973.

Joseph was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, and active member of St. Stanislaus Holy Name Society for many years as well as Treasurer for 10 years and the St. Stanislaus Holy Name Bowling League. He was also a member of the Untied Steelworkers Local Union #1104. He also played in the Boston Red Sox Minor League for several years.

He is survived by his son: Joseph J. Filak, Jr., of Lorain, daughter: Michaelena "Mickey" Filak of Avon Lake, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great granddaughters.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years: Stella (nee Uszak) in 1986, parents: Frank and Mary (nee Husich) Filak, brothers: James in 1985, Frank in 1992 and Steven in 1999 and sister: Margaret in 1999.

The family will receive friends on Monday 19, 2001 from 2-4 an d7-9 in the Dovin Funeral Home, Lorain where St. Stanislaus Holy Name Society will have a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 a.m. mass at St. Stanislaus Church, Lorain, Rev. Fr. Kevin Shemuga, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
