William A. Rolli, 78, Finish Carpenter

Born October 7, 1923 in South Amherst where he was raised and graduated from South Amherst High School in the class of 1941. He has lived in South Amherst his entire life.

William was a finish carpenter with Carpenters Local #305 for 45 years retiring in 1988. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater on the destroyer the U.S.S. McDermitt. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 8 bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, American Asia Ribbon and the Victory Medal for World War II. Mr. Rolli was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, he served on the South Amherst School Board, served on the Evergreen Cemetery Board, he served as an Auxiliary Police officer and a committee member for Boy Scouts. He was also a member of American Legion of South Amherst, Post #179. He enjoyed traveling to the U.S.S. Destroyer yearly reunions.

Survivors include his wife of 56years, Helen Jon (nee: Yarmock); sons: William D. Rolli of Alexandria, KY and Michael Rolli of Birmingham OH, four grandchildren and one great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Alfred and Elizabeth (nee: Schacht) Rolli.

Friends may call Sunday, December 2, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 3, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. from the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
