Elaine Romey, 77, Benefits Assistant
Elaine Romey (nee: King), 77 years of age, and a resident of Amherst passed away November 30, 2001 at the Lorain Community Health Partners Critical Care Unit after a one year illness.Born July 22, 1924 in Lima, OH, where she was raised and graduated from Lima High School in the class of 1941. She had made her home in Lima until moving to Amherst three and a half years ago.
Elaine belonged tot he Lima Community Sorority PHI BETA PSI a service based sorority for the community. She worked for the Republican Party as an assistant to the chairman of the state of Ohio later becoming an assistant for Republican Congressman Tennyson Guyer and finally working for Social Security as a benefits assistant. She was a member of South Side Christian Church, Lima. She enjoyed sports and knitting.
Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Dr. John (Anne) K. Gray of Amherst, Mrs. Tennyson (Nancy) Martin of Wilmington, OH; seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, James Romey; parents William and Carrie (nee: Hume) King; brother Robert King; sister, Maxine Callahan.
Friends may call Monday, December 03, 2001 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, and Tuesday, December 04, 2001 4 to 7 p.m. at the Siferd Funeral Home, 506 N. Cable Road, Lima. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at 11:00 from the South Side Christian Church, Lima. The Rev. Doug Adams, pastor of South Side Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery, Lima.
