Harry E. Ely, 62, Maintenance Man

Harry E. Ely, age 62, of Lorain died on Friday, November 30, 2001 at his residence, following a sudden illness.

Born on July 30, 1939 in Birdsrun, OH , he moved to Lorain in 1968. He previously lived in Cambridge, OH for 22 years.

He was a Seaman in the Navy from 1956-1960. He received his GED while serving in the navy in 1957.

Harry was employed in the maintenance department of the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority for 8 years retiring in 2001. He previously worked at PC Campana Lorain for 12 years and Towlift Inc., Cleveland from 1968 until 1980.

He was a member of the Lorain Police Auxiliary and Amherst Eagles #1141.

He enjoyed camping and watching football, motorcycling and playing computer games. He also did personal random volunteer work on his own.

He is survived by his fathers: Harry of Anaheim, CA, son: Walter of Lorain; daughter: Janet Sells of Lorain; 3 grandchildren: and sister Ruth Branscum of Obelrin.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Linda (nee Casterline) Ely in 1988, mother: Mildred (nee Wilden) Ely; stepfather: Walter West ; and brother Robert.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 from 508 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Friends may call again on Wednesday, December 5, 2001 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Mrs. Betty Sykes will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.

Military honors will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, Lorain.
