William W. Donges, 88, Farmer
William W. Donges, 88 of Amherst Township died Tuesday, December 04, 2001 in New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph, Lorain Following a lengthy illness.He was born December 1, 1913 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. He came to Lorain in 1936. He moved to Amherst Township in 1949.
Mr. Donges retired in 1972 from United States Steel Co. Lorain-Cuyahoga Works, Lorain as a Weigher in the #3 Seamless Pipe mill. He worked there for 36 years.
He was a veteran of World War II. He served with the 2755 Engineers Combat Battalion in Normandy and Northern France and Central Europe. He Earned 3 Bronze Stars and the Victory Metal.
Mr. Donges was a member of Saint Cyril and Methodius Slovenian Catholic Church, Lorain. He was also a member of the United Steel Workers, local 1104, Lorain, life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy, Chapter 20, Lorain, American Legion Post No. 118, Amherst. He enjoyed his farm. He raised chickens, cattle and grew pumpkins.
Among the survivors is his wife of 62 years Agatha (nee Kerhin); sons William E. Donges of Wellington and Craig F. Donges of Berlin Center, Ohio; daughters Joan A. Hoffman of Mobile, Alabama and Lauren D. Fuqua of Lorain; sister Eva Short of Lorain and 6 Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph E. and Birdie A. (nee Patton) Donges, brother Ralph Donges and sisters Ethel Dils and Josephine Kozosky.
Friends may call Thursday, December 6, 2001 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, Lorain, Ohio. Where the Parish Rosary will be prayed Thursday, December 6, 2001, afternoon at 2:30 PM. Funeral service will be Friday December 7, 2001, 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by 10:00 AM Mass in Saint Cyril and Methodius Slovenian Catholic Church, East 31st Street and Globe Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Paul Krajnik, Pastor officiating. Burial will be Calvary Cemetery, Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy, Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.
