David Warren Stahl, 82, Air Force Veteran
David Warren Stahl died Saturday, December 8, 2001 at Community Health Partners Hosp. & Surgical Crt-W in Lorain, OH after a one-month illness.Mr. Stahl was born in Bellevue, OH. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1936 and attended Ohio State University. He was a US Air Force Veteran of WWII. He served with the infamous "Flying Tigers" of the 14th Air Force in Kunming, China.
After the war, he returned to live in Tulsa, OK and began work in the real estate business, buying and selling homes. In Tulsa, he served several timess as secretary of the Tulsa Junior Chamber of Commerce.
In 1952, he returned to Bellevue to operate the Stahl Motor Company, a Dodge-Plymouth dealership. He also owned and operated the Stahl Tire and Supply Company in Bellevue, a B.F. Goodrich dealership, supplying northern Ohio service stations and garages with tires and other automotive products. In 1961 he relocated to Bryan, Ohio to operate Stahl Associates, an advertising firm established by his first wife, Anne Couser Stahl. He subsequently moved to Vermilion Ohio in 1970 and began his career as a life insurance underwriter. He continued his underwriting career for the next 25 years with the Ohio National Life Insurance Company. He earned his C.L.U degree. He also served as president of the Lorain County Underwriters Association. Most recently, he bought, rehabilitated and rented investment properties in Lorain, Elyria, Cleveland, and Toledo.
Mr. Stahl was past Exalted Ruler of Bellevue Elks Lodge #1013, where his membership spanned for 61 years. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #273 F & AM in Bellevue, a 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite, Valley of Cleveland, member of the A1 Koran Shrine in Cleveland, and an active member of Royal Order of Jesters, Court # 14 in Cleveland.
He also served as chairman of Amherst Noonday Club and past president of the Bryan Ohio Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Stahl enjoyed boating and fishing in Lake Erie and Cananda. He was an inveterate bridge player and golfer. He also enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Dorothy (nee Hiller) Muir Stahl of Amherst, son J. Mitchell Stahl of Sylvania, Ohio, daughters, Charlotte S. Ameter of Battle Creek, MI, Margaret A. Greer of Rossford, Ohio, Barbara L. Stahl of Pettysburg, Ohio, his step daughters Carol Frames, of Elyria, Nancy Ryan-Wenger of Columbus, OH and 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brother Harlow L. Stahl and his sister Helen J. Walter , both of Bellevue, OH.
Mr. Stahl is preceded in death by his parents: Harlow M. and Juanita A. (nee Davis) Stahl and brother Harlow D. Stahl.
Friends may call at Schwartz-Spence & Boyer Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio, on Tuesday, December 11,2001 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on December 12, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Schwartz-Spence & Boyer Home for Funerals in Lorain, OH.
David Warren Stahl will be buried at Elmwood Cemetary in Lorain, OH.
