Irene E. Fundak, 83, Lorain High Graduate
Irene E. Fundak, (nee Smith), long-time Lorain resident, died Monday at Ohio Extended Care Center following an extended illness. She was born in Lorain and was a 1936 graduate of Lorain High School.Mrs. Fundak was employed as a supervisor for Centel for many years retiring in 1982. She had previously been employed as the manager of the Fanny Farmer Candy Store of Lorain.
She was an avid traveler who especially enjoyed visits to California. She was also an accomplished cook who was well known for the cabbage rolls that she would make during the holiday season. She enjoyed shopping.
Survivors include her sons: James J. of Amherst, John J. Fundak, Jr. of Lorain, 3 granchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and by sisters: Eleanor Krajek of Ashland, Katherine Rufo of Lorain, and Marlene Sauvey of Anaheim, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband: John Fundak, Ssr. in 1988, by her father:James (Kovacs) Smith, her mother: Helen (nee Muskavics) Smith, by a brother: Robert Smith, and by a sister: Violet Swietynowski.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Sshimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel- 3224 Broadway- Lorain. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Simon Nekic, pastor of St. Vitus Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetary- Lorain.
