Olga B. Smith , 86, Life-long Lorain Resident

She attended Ss. Cyril and Methodius Parish School. For many years she served as a booth worker for the Lorain County Board of Elections. She was also a member and the former president of the Lorain Democratic Women's Club.

Mrs. Smith was a parishoner of St. John Roman Catholic Church (Lorain). She was extremely active in both Slovenian and Hungarian fraternal activities. For many years she was the program coordinator for the annual Night in Budapest, an event that was founded by her husband and former Lorain City Councilman Joseph "J.P."Smith. She was also a regular volunteer at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Macedonian Orthodox Church where she assisted with countless cooking and baking projects for fund-raising.

She was perhaps most well known for her benevolence in assisting area shut-ins with their cooking and health care needs.

She is survived by her sons: Joel of Fremont, Gary J. of Carlisle Township, daughter: Marcel K. Culkar of North Royalton, Ohio, 7 grandchildren, one great granddaughter, brother: John Virant of Lorain, and a cousin: Agnes Mroski of Scottsdale, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph P. "J.P." Smith in 1995, by her parents: Michael and Mary (nee Ipovic) Virant, and a sister: Mayme Heyslinger.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimp-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. John Catholic Church - Grave Avenue and Homewood Drive - Lorain. The Rev. Thomas Smith, pastor of St. John Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.
