Ann Nickel, 87, Gymnastics Participant
Ann Nickel (nee Kosmo), died Thursday December 27, 2001 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following a brief illness. She was born September 18, 1914 in Wilpen, Pennsylvania and moved to Lorain as a child. She had been a resident of Elyria since 1950 returning from residency in the state of New York.Mrs. Nickel attended Lorain High School. A former parishioner of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church (Lorain), she was an active participant with the gymnastics organizations of the Greek Catholic Union. A devoted mother and homemaker, she was currently a member of St. Jude Catholic Church (Elyria) where she had been a parishioner for nearly fifty years.
She is survived by her son: James R. Nickel of Elyria Township, a daughter: Barbara Barresi of Needham, Massachusetts, 2 grandchildren, sisters: Mary Gula and Virginia Kosmo both of Lorain, and Helen Mortensen of Canoga Park, California, and a brother: Robert of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Roland in 1998, by her father: Michael in 1962, by her mother: Anna (nee Jancso) in 1991, and by brothers: George in 1969, John in 1981, and Edward in 1992.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church -2711 West 20th Street - Lorain. The Rev. James Batcha, pator of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.
