Viola Eva Wehrle, 99, Square Dancer

Viola Eva Wehrle (nee Goebel), a resident of Lorain, passed away Monday evening, December 31, 2001 at Anchor Lodge Retirement Village, Lorain from advanced years.

Born February 20, 1902 in Center Township, Williams County, OH, she was raised and lived most of her life in Edgerton, OH except for 10 years when she was first married and started her family in Blakeslee, OH. She has been a resident of Lorain since 1988.

She was a homemaker and mother and assisted her husband on their dairy and crop farm. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Edgerton and the Altar and Rosary Societies. She enjoyed playing piano, polka and square dancing; plying cards, especially Euchre; checkers; exercising; and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Robert (Juanita) Herman of Springfield, Massachusetts and Catherine Watson of Amherst; 17 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren; a sister Agnes cape, age 105, of Edgerton; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ambrose Mecrius Wehrle on February 3, 1983; her son Robert Wehrle; her daughter Harriet Schrage; her parents Joseph and Mary (nee Pahl) Goeel; by her brothers Crinus and Paul Goebel; and by her sisters Elsie Goebel and Sivilla Lawnmore.

A Rosary Service will be held Friday, January 4, 2002 at 6:30 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave.; Amherst with St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst officiating. Friends may call Saturday at 10:00 a.m. to the time of service at 11:00 a.m. from St. Mary Catholic Church; 133 West Bement, Edgerton, OH. The Rev. Fr. Thomas Oedy, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Edgerton, OH.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, 133 West Bement, Edgerton, OH 43517 or contributions can be made to the Viola E. Wehrle Meorial fund at any Fifth Third Bank.
