Floyd Richard Swanson, 89, Served in Navy
Floyd Richard Swanson, of Avon Lake passed away Thursday at St. John & West Shore Hospital, Westlake, following a lengthy illness.He was born in Jamestown, New York and moved to Avon Lake in 1954 coming from the Cleveland area. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific repairing damaged ships as a welder. He was employed as a welder for Danco Metal Products, Westlake for over 30 years before retiring. Floyd was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Avon Lake; was a former president of the Gustavassa Scandinavian Lodge; the Lakewood Lodge No. 601 F. & AM. He received a 50-year membership award this year from the Lakewood Lodge. He was also a member of the Brown Bag Club of the Mid-Century Lodge, Avon Lake, and the V.F.W. Post 8796, Avon Lake. He enjoyed genealogy, gardening, wood working, fishing, jewelry making and photography.
Mr. Swanson is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris (nee Lundberg); two daughters, Sandra Phillips of Avon Lake and Nancy Vaugn of Port Charlotte, Florida; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Mortimer of Jamestown, New York and a brother, Maurice Swanson of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred R. and Anna O. (nee Danielson) Swanson; two sisters, Catherine Holmquist and Ruth MacPheran an a brother, Robert Swanson.
Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Rd. Avon Lake from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday, where the Lakewood Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 8:00 p.m. Monday evening. All services will be held at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 32747 Lake Rd. Avon Lake Tuesday, January 8 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Eileen Schwabero-Woyen, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Elmhurst Park Cemetery, Avon. Memorials may be forwarded to Christ Evangelical Church.
