Raymond J. Ries, 77, Army and Marine Corps Veteran

Raymond J. Ries, of Lorain, died Monday at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center - West following an extended illness. He was born in Cleveland and was raised in Vermilion, Ohio. He had been a resident of Lorain since 1952.

Mr. Ries was a World War II veteran of the Unites States Army as well as the Unites States Marine Corps. Serving as a Private First Class, he was the recipient of the Atlantic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was employed as a fireman aboard the ore carriers operated on the Great Lakes by Unites States Steel Corporation through the mid 1970's. He then transferred to the company's Lorain Works where he served as a stationary engineer until the time of his retirement (exact year unknown).

Mr. Ries hobbies included boating, football, and baseball.

He is survived by many nieces and nephew as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at 10:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery -Lorain.
