Esther Mae Emmerich, 77, Librarian

Photo of Esther Mae Emmerich Esther Mae Emmerich, 77 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, passed away Friday, January 11, 2002 at Anchor Lodge Retirement Village after a four month illness.

Born October 31, 1924 in Henrietta Township where she was raised and graduated from Henrietta High School with the class of 1942. She has made her home in South Amherst since 1934.

Ester attended Ohio State University where she received a degree in Library Science. She worked for Oberlin College as a Librarian retiring in 1985 after 35 years. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ where she participated in the Women's Altar Guild. Miss Emmerich was a professional Seamstress and Taylor and loved being a homemaker

Survivors include her brother, Irving Emmerich of Avon Lake, one niece, one nephew, several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam Emmerich in 1969 and Ethel (nee: Bristol) Emmerich in 1970; her brothers Charles M. Emmerich in 1995 and Warren L. Emmerich in 1941.

Friends may call Saturday, January 12, 2002 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, January 13, 2002 from 2-4 at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 14, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Paul D. Eaton, pastor of St. John United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Birmingham Cemetery, Birmingham.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Oberlin College Library; 148 W. College St., Oberlin, OH 44074.
