Allen W. Lasso, 72, Korean War Veteran
Allen W. Lasso of Avon Lake, passed away Tuesday January 16 at St. John West Shore Hospital, following a sudden illness. Mr. Lasso was born, July 28, 1929 in Cleveland and has lived in Avon Lake the past 47 years.Mr. Lasso began his career in the advertising department of the Cleveland News and then went to work for the Cleveland Plain Dealer for 39 years, retiring in 1985. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic, Avon Lake. Mr. Lasso was also a member of the Cleveland News Bowling League and the Avon Lake VFW Post 8769. He was a model railroader and railroad enthusiast. He enjoyed photography, the outdoors, spending time in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee and movies.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Rosemary (nee Gilmore); 4 daughters, Cheryl (Martin) Difilippo of Avon, Debbie Lasso of Sheffield Lake, Loretta (Mike) McMullen of Conyers, GA and Helen Lasso of Avon Lake and a son Frank (Wendy) Lasso of Lorain. Other survivors include 4 grandchildren and a sister Helen Nagy of Bradenton, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Loretta (nee Gierman) and brothers Robert and Frank.
Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, Sunday, January 20 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Prayer service at the funeral home Monday, at 9:45 a.m. followed by the mass of Christian Burial, at St. Joseph Catholic, 32929 Lake Rd., Avon Lake at 10:30 a.m. Fr. Stephen Shields of St. Thomas the Apostle Chruch, Sheffield lake will officiate. Internment will follow in Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon where North Ridgeville VFW Post 9871 will provide military honors.
