Edna C. Friend, 89, Active in Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church
Edna C. Friend (nee: Caplinger), 89 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2002 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Born May 13, 1912 in Thomas, W.Va., where she was raised and lived until moving to Amherst in 1982.
Edna was a housewife and mother. She was a member of the Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church, Lorain where she was very active.
Survivors include her son, Don Friend of Lorain; her daughter, Kathy Gibson of Lorain; three step grandchildren; sister, Ethel Brown of Monongah, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Hartsel E. Friend in 1981; her parents, George and Mona (nee: King) Caplinger; her brother Russell Caplinger; and sisters Muriel Kelley and Mary Smith.
Friends may call Friday, January 18, 2002 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst where funeral services will follow at 8:30 p.m. The Rev. Laroy Ruble, pastor emeritus of Emmanual United Methodist Church, Lorain and Rev. Dennis Henkle of Delaware Avenue Untied Methodist Church will officiate. Friends may also call Sunday 2 to 4 at Robert Tomblyn & Sons Funeral Chapel Inc in Buckhannon, W.Va. Graveside services will be held Monday, January 21, 2002 in Upshur County Memorial Park.
