Ruth Mildred Herrmann, 87, Sunday School Teacher

Ruth Mildred Herrmann, a resident of Amherst, passed away Sunday morning, January 20, 2002 at Community Health Partners H & S Center, Lorain after a lengthy illness.

Born August 9, 1914 in Cleveland, she was a life long resident of Amherst graduating from Central High School with the class of 1932.

She was employed by the Lorain Telephone Co., now Century Telephone, starting as an operator and retiring in 1979 after 38 years of service as the manager of the Amherst Office. She was a member of the Old Stone United Methodist Church, Amherst where she taught Sunday School for 60 years and belonged to the Sarah Circle of United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Hickory Tree Grange in Amherst for over 50 years; a member of the Pomona Grange of Lorain County; a member of the Communication Workers of America Retirees; a charter member of the Lorain County Art League; a member of the Amherst Homemakers; was a secretary of the Senior Citizens of Amherst for several years; and was a member of several A.A.R.P. groups.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Eileen Herrmann of Amherst; two nephews; four nieces; nine great nephews; and two great nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents Fred F. and Julia C. (nee Ossmann) Herrmann.

Friends may call Wednesday 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 am from the funeral home. The Rev. Peter Kerlin, pastor of Old Stone United Methodist Church, Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
