Robert W. Bremer, 51, Drum Instructor
Robert W. Bremer, of Lorain died Tuesday January 22, 2002 in the emergency room of Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center (West) following a sudden illness.He was born November 18, 1950 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident. Mr. Bremer was a 1969 graduate of Lorain St. Mary's High School where he was a standout drummer and percussionist with the marching and jazz bands. Later, he performed as a drummer with Dave C. and the Sharptones - a popular northern Ohio rock band performing Motown music extensively along Ohio's north coast.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Viet Nam Conflict; stationed in Morocco, he performed duties as a ship's engine mechanic and achieved the rank of E-3. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.
He was employed as a pattern maker for the American Crucible Company (Lorain) for 12 years. He was also a private drum instructor for many area percussion students.
An accomplished woodworker, he was an avid drag racing fan and participant in the Pro Stock Division at Norwalk Drag Raceway where he drove his 1967 Camaro. Additional interests included moto-cross racing - a sport that he was introduced to and participated extensively in while stationed in Morocco during his naval service.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years: Chris (nee Elambri), a son: Jacque Bremer of Lorain, daughters: Miriam Bremer of Lorain and Cathy Campagne of Clarksville, Tennesse, 2 grandchildren, his mother: Dorothy Bremer (nee Ssandor), brother: James of Lorain and sister: Nancy Sestilli of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his father, William in 1976.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by his funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church - Reid Avenue and 8th Street- Lorain. The Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain where military honors will be conducted by Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
