Frank J. Zgonc, 90, Frank's Grocery and Meat Market Proprietor

He was born October 1, 1911 in Ljubljana, Slovenia and had been a resident of Lorain since 1926.

Mr. Zgonc was the proprietor of the former Frank's Grocery and Meat Market, which had been located at 3114 Pearl Avenue for 25 years. He was later employed as a surveyor for the City of Lorain from 1971 until the time of his retirement in 1981.

He was a longtime parishioner of Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church; he was a member of its Holy Name Society where he received recognition as Parish Man of the Year in 1979 by the Lorain County Deanery. He was also a member of K.S.K.J. Lodge #101 of the American Slovenian Catholic Union. He was an avid fisherman and an ardent fan of the New York Yankees.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years; Angeline (nee Tomazic), by a daughter: Sr. Marilyn Zgonc, S.N.D. of Elyria, a son, Alan F. Zgonc of Lorain, by granddaughters, Meredith and Alexandra Zgonc and a brother, Joseph residing in Westlake, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Anna (nee Kumse) Zgonc, and by brothers: John and Cyril Zgonc.

Friends may call Sunday, January 27, 2002 from 3-6 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain, where a parish rosary service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be Monday, January 28, 2002, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 1709 East 31st Street, Lorain. The Rev. Paul Krajnik, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
