Milton A. Schieferstein, 85, Millers Ice Cream Shop Owner

Milton A. Schieferstein, a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, January 25, 2002 at New Life Hospice Residential Center after a short illness.

He was born November 27, 1916 in Amherst where he has lived his entire life. Milton was part owner of Bragger Auto Parts Store in Lorain, retiring in 1969. In 1971 Milton became owner of Millers Ice Cream Shop in Birmingham, until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Amherst, and a member of North Eastern Ohio Restaurant Assn.

Survivors include his daughter Sandra Foos, owner of Sandy's Tax Service, of Amherst; one grandson, Richard C. Foos of Avon, his brother Carl Schieferstein of Amherst; and his sister Thelma Grisel of Vermilion.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marquita (nee Axthelm) in 1987; his parents Carl and Martha (nee Strauss) Schieferstein.

Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave.; Amherst. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Gilmer Fauber, interim pastor of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, will officiate. Private burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to New Life Hospice Center, 5255 N. Abbe Rod. Elyria, Ohio 44035.
