Sylvia Mae Thiery, 90, Retail Sales Associate

Sylvia Mae Thiery, 90, of Lorain, died Sunday, January 27, 2002 at the Kingston of Vermilion following an extended illness. She was born February 20th, 1911 in Marietta, Ohio and had been a resident of Lorain since 1918.

A parishioner of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church (Lorain), she attended Irving Elementary School as well as Lorain High School.

She was employed as a retail sales associate for the W.T. Grant Company and Niesner's Department Store. Her hobbies included oil painting, sewing, embroidery, and working with arts and crafts.

She is survived by her sons: John "Jack" Thiery, of Lorain, Theodore E. Thiery of Harlingen, Texas; daughter: Myrna Schmidkons of Vermilion, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Theodore in 19878, and by her mother: Bertha Mae Somogy (nee Carpenter).

Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by her funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church - Eighth Street and Reid Avenue - Lorain. The Rev. John Kline, Pastor Emeritus of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.
