Steve J. Nemeth, 88, Enjoyed Bowling
Steve J. Nemeth, age 88, of Lorain died on Tuesday, January 29, 2002, at Bradley Bay Health Center, Bay Village, OH following a lengthy illness.He was born on January 24, 1914 in Austria-Hungary and moved to Lorain in 1939.
Steve served in the U.S. Army during WWII as Private First Class and was stationed in North Appennines, Rome-Arno-Po Valley. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, American Theater Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Victory Medal, Purple Heart from wounds received in Italy, and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was employed at Lorain Works US Steel, for over 35 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local #1104 and the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20, of Lorain.
Steve enjoyed bowling, watching baseball, football and horse racing.
He is survived by his step-daughter: Joan Box of Las Vegas, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years: Zelma (nee Septer) in 1994, step-daughter: Patricia Matyi, step-son: Terry Stembal and brother: Joseph Nemeth.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 31, 2002 from 4-7 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 1, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Rev. William Schill, deacon of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy, Chapter #20 will conduct full military honors.
