Josephine A. Popa, 79, Cedar House Ceramics Owner
Josephine A. Popa (nee Sakowski), age 79, of Lorain, died Thursday, January 31, 2002 at the Norwalk Manor Home, Norwalk, OH following a lengthy illness.Born on January 1, 1923 in Lorain, she had been a lifelong resident of the area.
Mrs. Popa owned Cedar House Ceramics in Amherst for 20 years where she taught ceramics and retired in 1990. She also worked for the Ontario and Woolworth Discount Stores. She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, enjoyed caked decorating, designing floral arrangements and being involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert J. Popa of Lorain; sons, Robert G. Popa of Indianapolis, Indiana and Arthur J. Popa of Norwalk; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Jaworski of Amherst and Jenny Witkowski of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by a son Wesley in 1949, her parents, Peter and Agnes Kapron Sakowski, sisters, Loja Sakowski and Julie Dabrowski and brothers Eddie and Leon Sakowski.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 3, 2002 from 5-7 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Prayers will be said at the funeral home Monday, February 4, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Nativity BVM, 418 W. 15th Street, Lorain. Reverend Robert J. Glepko will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
