Alex Johnson, 87, Repair Shop Owner

Alex Johnson, 87 of Lorain died Saturday, February 02, 2002 in Autumn Aegis Nursing Home following a brief illness.

He was born August 18, 1914 in Bitola, Yugoslavia. He moved to Florina Greece as a child. He was a student of agriculture there. He served in the Greek Army. He immigrated to United States in the late 1930's and lived in Gary Indiana, working in the steel mill there. He came to Lorain in 1949.

Mr. Johnson owned and operated a clock and watch repair shop in downtown Elyria in the 1950's. He retired from United States Steel Co. Lorain-Cuyahoga Works, Lorain as an electrician in 1975.

He served in World War Two in the U. S. Army in the North Africa, earning a Good Conduct Metal, EAME, American Defense Service and American Theater Ribbons.

He was a Member of Saint Nicolas Greek Orthodox Church, Lorain. He was also a member of United Steel Workers, Local 1104, Lorain and a Life Member of Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy, Chapter 20, Lorain.

Among the survivors is his wife of 44 years Freda Elefteria (nee Paleoxoritou) Johnson; and a brother Takis Gianopolos of Thessaloniki, Greece; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gregori and Athena (nee Dimitriadis) Loannou, three brothers, and three sisters.

Friends may call Monday 3:00 to 6:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, Lorain, Ohio, where a Trisayion service will be Monday afternoon at 5:30 PM.

Funeral service will be Tuesday 10:30 AM in St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Boulevard, Lorain. The Reverend Michael Gulgas, Pastor officiating.

Burial will be in Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain, where the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy, Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.
