Clifford E. "Gene" Cameron, 77, U.S. Navy Veteran
Clifford E. "Gene" Cameron, age 77, of Lorain, died on Tuesday, February 5, 2002, at his residence, while under the care of New Life Hospice, following a lengthy illness.Born on November 24, 1924, in Ursina, PA, he moved to Lorain in 1952.
He graduated from Confluence High School, PA in 1943.
He served in the United States Navy as Seaman 1st Class during World War II. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Medal.
Gene was employed as a millwright at Lorain Works US Steel, for 34 years, retiring in 1986. Gene was a life member of both the American Legion Post #118, Amherst, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1079, Elyria, Amherst Honor Guard and United Steelworkers Union Local #1104. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, playing softball and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Wanda (nee Watkins), 2 sons: David, of Conway, AK, and Kenneth of Lorain, daughter: Tina Cameron, of Lorain, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and sister: Mary Shaulis, of Lone Pine, CA.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Harry and Katie Elizabeth (nee Nichlow) Cameron.
The family will receive friends on Thursday February 7 2002 from 5-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Services will be held on Friday, February 8, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. The Very Rev. Archpriest Basil Stoyka, pastor of Ss Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. Full military honors will be conducted by the Amherst Honor Guard.
