Karen J. "Ma" Palmer, (nee McKee) age 64 of Lorain died Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following a brief illness.Mrs. Palmer was born June 20, 1937 in Cleveland, OH and attended West Technical High School. She had been a resident of Lorain since 1954.
She was most recently employed as a clerk for Brownie's Convenience Store in Sheffield Lake. She had previously been employed as a candy maker for the Faroh Candy Company as well as an assembler for the Lorain Products Company.
For the past 36 years, she had been an active member of Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church (Lorain). She was an ardent volunteer at all church functions and had served on the church's administrative council; she also served as a Sunday school teacher as well as a member of the church choir. She was also a participant of the Food Pantry program at the church as well as a member of the Leah Circle. She was a former member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ on Cleveland's near west side.
Her hobbies included reading, making daily devotions to the Bible, gardening, needlepoint and all types of crafts. She was also a life member of the Elvis Presley fan club as well as a regular member of the Billy Ray Cyrus fan club.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, George, "Pa" Palmer, Jr., son, George Palmer III of Lorain, daughters, Patricia J. Fetter of LaGrange, Ohio, Karen M. Falbo of Lorain, Tina G. Dorsey of Amherst, Georgette Palmer of Daytona Beach, FL, 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, brothers: Richard L. McKee of Catawba Island, and James McKee of Valley City, Ohio along with five step-siblings.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest A. McKee, her mother: Gladys (nee Ohlrich) McKee-Turner, and by her stepfather: Gordon E. Turner.
Friends may call Friday, February 8, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain where funeral services will be Saturday, February 9, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. J. Dennis Henkle, pastor of Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
