Alexander T. Hildebrand, 83, Senior Design Engineer

Alexander T. Hildebrand, 83, of Elyria and formerly of Avon passed away Thursday, February 7, 2002 at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria following a short illness.

Mr. Hildebrand was born, February 16,1 918 in Lakeville, Indiana and lived in Avon over 50 years before moving to Elyria over a year ago.

During World War II, Alex served in the Air Corp. and as a Mechanic. He graduated from Purdue University in Indiana with a degree in mechanical engineering and was employed as a Senior Design Engineer at Bendix-Westinghouse in Elyria, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the Avon United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and as an honorary chair on the building committee. He also volunteered and served as a Stephen Minister at the Elyria Untied Methodist Village. He was a member of the Charleston Lodge No. 702 F & A.M. and served as worshipful master three times, as well as the Blue Lodge, York and Scottish Rite, and past patron of the River Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mr. Hildebrand served on Avon City Council for ten years, and Planning Commission. In addition, he taught blue print reading as part of the adult education program at Elyria City Schools. He enjoyed working on cars and gardening.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Wolf (Clifford) of Beachwood, Kathy Thatcher (Larry) of Austin, TX; a son, Dale Hildebrand (Jane) of Sheffield Village; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Rachel, Jeffrey, Jeremy, Aaron, Janet and Joely; and a sister, Harriet A. Hines of Denver, CO.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen M; parents, Anderson B. Hildebrand, Sr. and Anna P. (nee Thayer); a brother Anderson Hildebrand and a grandson, Matthew Hildebrand.

Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 32000 Detroit Road, Avon from 7-9 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2002. All services will be held at the Avon United Methodist Church, 37711 Detroit Road, Avon on Monday, February 11th at 11:00 a.m. Rev. John Butchko, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.

Memorials may be forwarded to the Eileen M. Hildebrand Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Sheffield-Sheffield Lake Schools or the Stephen Ministry at the Elyria United Methodist Village.
