James Walter Varady, 79, Machinist

James Walter Varady, age 79, of Lorain, died Friday, February 8, 2002, at the home of his daughter following an extended illness.

Mr. Varady was born June 29, 1922 in Marion, OH and had been a resident of Lorain for most of his life.

A World War II U. S. Army Veteran, he served as a radio operator.

He was employed as a machinist in the machine shop at U.S. Steel's Lorain Works for 46 years; he retired from that post in 1989. He was a member of United Steelworkers Local 1104.

He was also a journeyman electrician and at one time was the co-owner of a television repair business which he operated in his home.

A talented handyman, his primary hobby was repairing anything and everything.

He is survived by daughters: Cheryl Varady and Sylvia Varady both of Lorain, Loretta Puskarich of Elyria Township, and Eileen Harris of Cleveland, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and by brothers: Richard P. and Kenneth W. both of Elyria.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Rose (nee Scillia) in 1982, by his parents: Julius N. and Sylvia (nee Miliron) Varady, by a sister: Sylvia Ann Varady and by brothers: Jay R. Varady, Marion T. Varady and William D. Varady.

Friends may call Sunday, February 10, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Glvuna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday, February 11, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Rev. G. Michael Williamson, associate pastor of the Catholic Church of St. Peter (Lorain) officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
