Grace E. Ennis, 101, Talented Pianist
Grace E. Ennis (nee Ringson), age 101, of Vermilion, died Saturday morning at Mill Manor Nursing Home in Vermilion.Born on November 25, 1900 in Clinton, Iowa, she was raised there and became a talented pianist. She played piano in theaters for silent movies and in the 1920's she also had the first all girl dance band in the country, called "Co-Eds". After moving to Vermilion over 60 years ago, she worked at both Hart's and Baumhart's Drug Stores and played organ and piano for churches, Rotary, area nursing homes and the minstrel shows. Her love of music lasted all her life as she continued to entertain the residents at Mill Manor even after celebrating her 101st birthday.
She was also a member of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Vermilion Chapter of AARP.
She is survived by a son, Burdette, "Bud" Ennis of Vermilion; grandchildren, Valerie Plouck of Bryan, Ohio, Mitchell Ennis of Tiffin, Ohio, and Gregory Ennis of Mason, OH; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burdette Ennis in 1970, her parents Charles and Jennie Ringson, 5 brothers and a sister, 2 of whom also made it to the age of 100.
A memorial service may be held at a later date.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
