Lorena H. Miller, 81, Elementary School Teacher

Lorena H. Miller (nee Hoskins) of Avon Lake passed away Saturday, February 9, 2002 at her home from injuries sustained in a fall.

Mrs. Miller was born, April 30, 1920 in Middlefield, Ohio and had lived for 24 years in Columbia Station, before coming to Avon Lake 20 years ago.

She had worked as an elementary school teacher, primarily teaching 3rd grade, in the Rocky River and Columbia Station School Systems. Mrs. Miller retired in 1980 after 25 years. She received her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education from Kent State and her Masters Degree from Ohio State.

Mrs. Miller was a member of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ and it's women's group. She was active with the church's after school mentoring program. She volunteered with the North East Lorain County Social Services Meals-on-Wheels program. She is a former member of the Columbia Station United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and reading.

She is survived by a daughter Marylynne Miller of Milan, Ohio and son Joe (Jackie) Miller of Zionsville, IN. Other survivors include 6 grandchildren, Bryan, Jason, Matthew, Christine, Matthew and Katie. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Gordon M., who passed away in 1997, and her parents Glade and Belle (Langley) Hoskins, and a brother Ralph.

Friends may call at the Avon Lake United church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake, Tuesday, February 12 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at the church, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Kelly Peters of the Church will officiate. Internment will follow in Columbia Township Cemetery, Columbia Station. Memorials may be forwarded to Meals on Wheels c/o North East Lorain County Social Services, 4575 Lake Rd., Sheffield Lake, 44054. Arrangements are by the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, Avon Lake.
