Joseph B. Facsko, 68, Studied at Bowling Green

Joseph B. Facsko, of Amherst, died Sunday February 10, 2002 at his residence after being stricken with an apparent heart attack. He was born September 1, 1933 in Lorain and had been a resident of Amherst for the past 40 years.

He was a 1951 graduate of Lorain St. Mary High School and went on to attend Bowling Green State University where he studied music with a special focus on vocals. Gifted in music, he served as a lead vocalist and bass player with the Nutones - an area band he formed. He was the founder and first president of the Lorain Catholic High School Band Boosters, and also served as the Choir Director for both St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst for many years.

He was extremely interested in civic affairs and formerly served on the Easter Seals Board of Post Polio Syndrome. Additional interests included flower gardening, baseball, and basketball.

He was most recently employed as an instant lottery coordinator for the Ohio Lottery Commission - a post that he had held for ten years. He was currently serving as a marketing representative for Adkins Elegant Desserts of Noblesville, Indiana, a vocation that he originally started as his hobby.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years: Cornelia "Connie" (nee Sibak), son: Joseph "Jeff" Facsko of Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter: Stephanie Jo Dziak of Mesquite, Texas, 2 grandsons, and sisters: Roselyn Mittendorf of Lorain, and Margaret Lenox of Allen, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father: Joseph J. Facsko in 1982, and by his mother: Margaret (nee Bolyos) Facsko in 2000.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by his funeral mass at 9:30 in St. Joseph Catholic Church - 200 St. Joseph Drive Amherst. The Rev. Lawrence Martello, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
