Mary Buczynski, 78, Born in the Ukraine

Mary Buczynski (Burlaka), of Lorain, died Monday, February 11, 2002 at New Life Hospice Center at St. Joseph, Lorain following a short illness.

She was born August 24, 1923 in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Ukraine, and lived in Braunschweig, Germany before coming to Lorain in 1950.

She worked as an active member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, where she enjoyed making pierogi. She was also a member of the Ukrainian Women's League, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, and was a founding member of the Ukrainian National Home.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and her family especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband, Nick of 56 years, son Donald, of Lorain, and daughter, Olga Kamoutsis, of Amherst, 4 grandchildren, a great granddaughter, and a sister, Helen, of the Ukraine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Efrozia Burlaka, and sisters, Nina, Vera, and Olga.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday February 13, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave. Lorain, where a panahida service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday February 14 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 38038 Charleston Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Peter Thomas, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
