Helen Martha Ehlert, 89, Amherst High Graduate
Helen Martha Ehlert (nee: Roemer) of Amherst, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2002 at Kingston of Vermilion Nursing & Rehabilitation Services after a lengthy illness.Born December 21, 1912 in Amherst where she was raised. She graduated from Amherst High School with the class of 1930 where she was the Valedictorian and a member of the National Honor Society, Helen has been a lifelong resident of Amherst.
Helen Graduated from the Elyria School of Office Training, Elyria. She worked for Thew Shovel Company, Lorain. She was the owner and operator of Georgia Huntington Dress Shop in Lorain for 5 years. She enjoyed traveling both in the States and abroad and was an avid reader. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, where she sang in the choir. She was past president of Women's Club, a member of the Lakeland Women's Club, Past president of the Amherst Sorosis Club, charter member of th Quota International of Lorain where she served as past President in other offices of 6th District of Ohio, past District Secretary/Treasurer to district governor for 3 terms. She was Quotarian of the Year in 1997. She attended many National Conventions for Quota International both in the States and abroad.
Survivors include cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John August Ehlert, 1990; her parents Fred and Lucy (nee Holl) Roemer.
Friends may call Sunday 6-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. from the St. Peter's United Church of Christ. The Rev. Edward Hale, former pastor of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
