Elena "Helen" Garcia, 80, Enjoyed Poetry
Elena "Helen" Garcia, of Lorain, died Sunday. February 17, 2002 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain, following a brief illness.Born August 18, 1921 in Thurber, TX, she came to live in Lorain in 1924. She worked for Joseph and Feiss Co. as a processor, retiring in 1924.
A member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Helen served as a Eucharistic Minister, and was a member and past president of the chapel's Our Lady of Guadalupe Society.
She enjoyed reading, music, poetry, and taking care of her pets. She had a good sense of humor, always making others laugh.
Surviving is her 3 sons, Augustine Jr., and Marco, both of Lorain, Daniel of San Antonio TX, 4 daughters, Rita Garcia, Olga Sanchez, Patricia Smith, and Helen Garcia, all of Lorain, 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Antonio Delgado, of Lorain, one sister, Guadalupe Flores, of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Augustine "Gus" Garcia, in 1994, and her parents, Justo and Luisa (nee Rangel) Delgado, brothers, Peter Delgado and Paul Delgado, sisters, Juanita Amador, and Delores Reyes.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 20, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The family will also receive friends on Thursday, Feb. 21st, from 9:00 a.m. until time of the funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave. Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thadden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
