Ruth E. Hibbard, 87, Member of Root Family (local pioneer family)
Ruth E. (nee Koster) Hibbard, died Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at her home in Lorain, Ohio following a brief illness.Mrs. Hibbard was born November 12, 1914 in Lorain, OH. She was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1933 A.
She was an active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, active in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and several of the women's groups in the church. Mrs. Hibbard also taught Sunday Church School and Catechism. She was a life member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Women of America.
Mrs. Hibbard was a member of the Eastside Literary Club and a charter member of the Black River Historical Society. She also was once a Girl Scout leader.
She had been employed by the former Lorain Banking Company and was most recently a homemaker.
Mrs. Hibbard is survived by her daughter, Sue Graham of Amherst, her son, David W. Hibbard of Medina and 2 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Root Hibbard in 1979, her parents William and Helen (nee Shaw) Koster, sisters Ethel Koster, Helen Carver, and brother William Koster.
Funeral services will be held on February 25, 2002 at 10L30 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain, OH with Rev. Dr. L.H. Chamberlain and Rev. Jimmy Madsen, co-pastors of First Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.
Ruth E. Hibbard will be buried at Garfield Cemetery in Sheffield Village, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6th & Washington Street, Lorain, OH 44052.
