Rita M. McCann, 79, Devoted to Son and Grandsons
Rita M. McCann (nee Schmitz) - 79 of Avon Lake, formerly of Sheffield Lake, passed away, Thursday, February 21, 2002 at St. John West Shore Hospital, Westlake, following a two week illness. Mrs. McCann was born, March 30, 1922 in Cleveland and had lived in the area since 1961.Mrs. McCann had worked for the Navy Finance Center, Cleveland in the payroll department, beginning in the late 1940's, working for 15yrs. She was a 1939 graduate of Fairview Park High School. She was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Sheffield Lake and a current member of St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake. Mrs. McCann was describ3d by here family as always willing to lend a helping hand and being dedicated to her son and grandsons. She enjoyed crocheting and was an avid reader.
Mrs. McCann is survived by her son Thomas L. of Elyria, three sisters, Virginia O'Brien of Avon Lake, Marguerite Potchatek of Parma, Betty Kmiecik of Hinkley and a brother Frank Schmitz of Parma and three grandsons, Thomas John, Kevin William and Mathew Michael. Besides her husband of 41 years, William L. McCann, she is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Lillian (nee Ryan) Schmitz and a brother Leslie, Jr.
Friends my call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, from 1:00 - 3:00 and 6:00 - 8:00pm Sunday, February 24. Prayer service at the funeral home, Monday at 10:30am followed by the mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 32929 Lake Rd., Avon Lake, at 11:00am. Fr. Timothy J. O'Connor of the church will officiate. Internment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
