Chester Bailey, 79, Army Sergeant
Chester Bailey of Lorain died on Monday, March 4, 2002 at Community Health Partners Hosp. & Surgical Ctr-W in Lorain.Chester was born October 12, 1922 in Amherst, OH and resided in Lorain most of his life.
He was a graduate of Amherst High School class of 1941, and Oberlin School of Commerce in 1947. He served in the Army as a Sergeant in the 462 Ordinance and received the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with a Silver Star, and a Normandy Invasion Citation from the French Government. He had been employed by General Motors of Elyria as a Foreman in the Plating Department for 31 years retiring in 1980. He was a 55-year member of the Stonington Masonic Lodge #503 of Amherst, and a 32-year member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland and a former member of the El Re Grotto and a member of the GM Retires. He enjoyed golf and was a former member of the Oberlin Golf Club for 20 years and he enjoyed traveling and watching sports and collecting watches.
Chester is survived by his wife Nora (nee Pries) of 55 years, his son Bruce of Lorain, two grandchildren, 4 nieces and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl & Ruby (nee Wilford), brothers Glen Earl and Walter and a sister Gwendolyn Cloud.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 5th St. Family graveside services will be Thursday with burial at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain, Contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society 902 Westpoint Parkway, Suite 300, Cleveland 44145 or the American Heart Assn. 1689 East 115th St., Cleveland 44106.
