Harvey Roberts, 77, U.S. Navy Veteran
Harvey "Harry" Roberts, 77 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, March 4, 2002 at Lorain Community Health Partners, Critical Care Unit after a brief illness.Born October 24, 1924 in Greenwood, W. VA, where he was raised, moving to Elyria in 1953. He had been a resident of Lorain for the past 28 years moving to Amherst in 2001.
Harvey worked for Lorain Ford Motor Corp. retiring after 28 years in 1986 as a lift operator. He was a member of Toledo Road Church of Christ where he was a former deacon. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic during WWII on the U.S.S. Lyon-troop carrier. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and fishing.
Survivors include wife of 54 years, Lillian J. (nee Rhodes) Roberts; his sons Dennis Roberts of Elyria and Tracy Roberts of South Amherst; 2 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; his sisters Florence Cody of Florida, Ruth Riser of Oak Hill, W. VA., Betty Verity of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Elsie (nee Hicks) and his sister, Pauline.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Toledo Road Church of Christ; 5075 Toledo Road, Lorain. Robert Eddy, evangelist of Toledo Road Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be private.
