Gary P. Benczi, 59, Paratrooper
Gary P. Benczi, 59 of Lorain, died March 5, 2002 in his residence following a sudden illness.He was born February 16, 1943 in Lorain, where he has been a life long resident.
He graduated from Lorain High School in 1961A.
He served his country in the U.S. Army Paratroopers from 1961-1964 attaining the rank of Pvt.
Gary was employed as an electrician in the wire department of Republic Technologies International for the past 33 years. Prior to that, he was employed as a welder at Fruehauf for 5 years.
He was chairman of both the S&A and Workman's Compensation Committees and a member of United SteelWorkers Union Local 1104.
He enjoyed movies, woodworking, and riding motorcycles.
He is suvived by his wife, Willa "Pat" (nee Kuhn) of 9 years; son Keith of Hazelton, PA; daughter, Rachell Benczi of Lorain; 2 granddaughters; mother, Mabel (nee Barlow) Benczi of Lorain; brother, Timothy of Lorain; and 2 sisters, Cheryl Poole of Cleveland and Marie Fitzgerald-Zelina of Lorain.
He is preceded in death by his father Paul Benczi in 1998.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 7, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain where services will be conducted on Friday, March 8, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Private Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
