Thomas J. Klein, 83, Navy Veteran
Thomas J. Klein, Sr. age 83, of Lorain, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 in the emergency room of Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center West. He was born March 1, 1919 in Altman, Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Lorain since childhood.Mr. Klein attended Lorain High School and went on to service in the United States Navy during World War II. He served as Seaman First Class and was attached to the Naval Air Corps as a ground crewman. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal as well as the American Area Medal.
He was employed as an assembler for the Lear-Siegler Corporation of Elyria retiring in 1983. Prior to that he was employed as an assembler with the Thew Division of Koerhing Company where he served for 34 years. The American Ship building Company had also formerly employed him.
An active parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter (Lorain), he was a member of the church's Holy Name Society and also served many years as an usher and greeter. His hobbies included vegetable gardening and televised football.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Anne (nee Stigel), sons: Thomas J. Klein Jr. of Vista, California, and Kenneth J. Klein of Mission Viejo, California, daughters: Kathleen Hudak of Miami, FL, and Jane Klein of Cleveland, 4 grandchildren, sister: Mary Ellen Breznai of Avon Lake, and a brother: George of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Andrew and Anna (nee Petrick) Klein, by sisters: Ann Gencur and Sr. Mary DePaul, V.S.C., and by brothers: Martin, John, Andrew, and Joseph.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel- 3224 Broadway- Lorain where a rosary service will be conducted by members of the St. Peter Holy Name Society at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter- 3501 Oberlin Avenue- Lorain. The Rev. Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of the Disabled American Veterans will conduct full military honors.
